To Aloysius on His Retirement

" Gone are the praise and the laughter
     The encouraging words and the cheers;
Now I am ready for that which comes after
     The peace of the golden years.

At last the Great Show is over
     The children who rode me are grown.
But contentment is here in the clover
     And never will I be alone.

 For green are pastures around me
     Where a pony may safely graze:
With family and friends to surround me
     I will dream of the glorious days.

Under skies as blue as my ribbons
     I will canter again in the sun.
And once more the crowds will shout 'Bravo!
     Aloysius, Good Pony, well done!' "
